The Power of Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA)

Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA) is an omega-6 unsaturated fatty acid made in the human body from linoleic acid found in vegetable oils (such as evening primrose oil, borage seed oil, and black currant oil) and egg yolks. It is also found in human breast milk. GLA is important for the functioning of the brain and nervous system and for immune system (normally used by the body to make prostaglandins - hormone-like substances believed to be involved in regulating the immune system).

Some studies have shown that GLA can slow or stop the growth of some types of cancer cells and may help some cancer drugs to work better. GLA and GLA-rich supplements have been found to help people with breast pain, skin allergies (I found it to help relief my eczema), diabetes, obesity, rheumatoid arthritis, heart disease, high blood pressure, premenstrual syndrome, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and discomfort in contact lens-related dry eyes.
